Increasing Engagement with Tactical Prompts

Agent Rewards is Progressive's channel sales incentive program, with over 200,000 active participants.

This project was new business; migrating Agent Rewards onto PerformX from another vendor. Several product enhancements were needed to match the features of their previous system.

Objectives

Improve engagement by requiring participants to manually enroll in promotions.

Add new functionality to the promotion setup wizard, to enable grouping of related promotions.

Design the participant-facing expression of the new functionality in such a way that participants would experience grouped promotions as a single, unified incentive.

Outcomes

Worked iteratively with the client to rapidly design a streamlined self-enrollment experience.

Minimized dev resources needed to implement the enrollment feature by leveraging UI components and interaction patterns that were similar to existing product features.

Devised strategy to deliver an MVP version of the grouping feature using existing functionality. This freed-up developers, helping the team hit launch deadlines—and bought time for UX to properly iterate on final designs.

Challenges

To deliver on the KPI of increased engagement, the participant experience for self enrollment needed a strong call-to-action, and clear indications of enrollment status. We learned that participants might see a large number of promotions at the same time so there was a risk of the enrollment UI becoming repetitive and distracting from other information on the page. The enrollment process needed to be quick, but there was also a lot of information to communicate to ensure participants were making a deliberate, informed choice.

I designed the promotion enrollment UI with a strong call-to-action and clear indications of enrollment status. Clutter on the home page is minimized by distributing prompts and guidance throughout a multi-step journey.

It's quick and efficient for frequent users, but also provides contextual instructions and incremental feedback to help ensure new users are making an informed choice.

For the Admin users, there were multiple touchpoints that had to be modified in the Promotion Setup workflow so they would have the necessary controls to configure promotions for self-enrollment.
